Victoria Lean Coffee – AI in Construction: Where is the industry focusing now, where are the real solutions, and where is the gap still wide open?

This Lean Coffee session will explore where AI in construction is genuinely delivering value today, where current solutions are emerging, and where the biggest unresolved gap remains. The discussion will test whether the market is mostly improving existing coordination and information workflows, rather than solving the deeper system-level problems that continue to drive poor flow, fragmented decisions, and productivity loss. The aim is to surface where AI is useful now, where the research is strongest, and what still needs to be solved if AI is to support better project outcomes rather than simply generate more information. That framing also aligns with Jared’s recent thinking on the industry challenge of “too much information” and the need to make information genuinely useful to decision-making and communication.

Presenter – Jared Chesterman is Co-Founder at ProgressAmp, a Lean Practitioner, PMP, and Board member of Lean Construction ANZ. His work sits at the intersection of Lean thinking, systems improvement, and practical industry innovation, with a focus on improving productivity, flow, and decision-making in complex project environments. Recent internal materials also show him positioning ProgressAmp around helping industry think more critically about information, waste, and how digital tools, BIM, and AI can better support project performance.
